Obituary of Ruth Rockmore
Ruth Rockmore passed away peacefully at 102 on March 3. She was born on August 14, 1910, the daughter of the late Bessie and Jacob Rothblatt. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Dr. Leonard Rockmore, a brother Harry Rothblatt and sister Evelyn Dannenberg. She spent her early years in New York City, before moving to Berne, New York where her husband started his practice. While in Berne, Ruth became a member of the Eastern Star, a Girl Scout Leader, and involved herself in many community activities.
In 1958, Ruth moved to Delmar where she made many close friends. While in Delmar, Ruth worked for Farm Family Insurance. She and her husband traveled around the United States visiting many of our National Parks, and took several trips abroad to Europe and Asia. She became a member of Hadassah and Congregation Beth Emeth. Ruth and her husband spent a few winters together in Florida and after his death, Ruth continued until she moved to The Beverwyck.
She thoroughly enjoyed her years at the Beverwyck socializing with good friends, weekly bridge games, piano concerts and gathering for dinner. Ruth was always calm and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Her ever present smile was welcoming. She enjoyed a good game of bridge and habitually did the morning crossword. She never failed to exhibit her steadfast, no -nonsense approach to life.
Ruth was called Ma, Mom, Gram, Grandma, and Grandma the Great by family members. She was in every way the matriarch of the family and even the littlest among us knew how special she was. Ruth treasured her family and friends and every Thanksgiving, including 28 this past Thanksgiving, Ruth gathered to celebrate the gift of having each other. She loved chopped Liver, tulips, the ballet, fruit, pockets in her clothing, the color aqua, Nathan's hotdogs and Emeraude perfume. The family cherished the rugulagh which Ruth made with love for anyone hurt or sick and sometimes, "just like this" as she would say. She lived a full and beautiful life, rich with experience and family.
Ruth is survived by her son Alan Rockmore and his wife Susan, her daughter Barbara Coffino and her husband Jonathan. Grandchildren; Dr. Jeffrey and Kristen Rockmore, Andy and Lizzie Rockmore, Todd Rockmore and Bradley Rockmore, Amanda and James Huffman, Brianna and Brian Edquist and Kara Coffino, Great grandchildren: Ryan, Zachary, Talia, Benjamin and Eli Rockmore , Owen Huffman and Amalia Edquist.
