Obituary of Claudia Johnson
Claudia Davis Johnson, 97, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013. Born in Hickory, NC, Claudia was the 12th of 13 children born to Louise Holloway Davis and Thomas Davis. Prior to moving to Daughters of Sarah, Claudia lived at Westview Homes for over 20 years. She was very involved in Senior Services of Albany Congregate Meal Program where she volunteered daily while at Westview. At Mount Calvary Baptist Church she served as a deaconess and was a member of the Silvertones, a church choir group in the 1960's. Claudia was the recipient of numerous awards for her many acts of kindness and volunteerism including the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Claudia worked all her life as a housekeeper. She was in the employ of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Newhof from 1945 until 1985. Her life of devotion to family, friends and her church was exemplary. She will be sorely missed by all who were touched by her beautiful life and smile.
Claudia is survived by her beloved and cherished friends, Jan Reiss-Weitzman and Caryl Newhof, numerous great nieces and nephews in Hickory NC and many dear friends..Claudia was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Ernest Lee Johnson and her 12 siblings.
Services will be held at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 58 Alexander St., Albany on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Viewing from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and funeral at 1:00 p.m.. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 2150 Central Ave., Schenectady, NY 12304. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Memory Enhancement Unit at Daughters of Sarah, especially Tina and Jason, who provided Claudia with the dignity and grace she so deserved.
