Obituary of Ida S. Privler
Ida Saltzman Privler, age 93, formerly of Albany and Ocala, Florida passed away suddenly and peacefully Wednesday morning January 23, 2013 at her residence in Delray, Florida with family at her side. Mrs. Privler was born in NYC to the late Julius and Molly Kritz Saltzman on August 2nd 1919, the eldest of 6 children. At a young age she moved to Schenectady, New York where she first attended school. In 1924 her parents moved to Albany where he father established and operated a successful laundering establishment, known as the Reliable Cleaners and Dyers, where they lived on Herkimer Street. During the mid to late 1930's Mrs. Privler was responsible for helping to raise her younger siblings while her Mother worked long hours at the Cohoes Mill. Ida attended Albany Schools # 8, Hackett Middle School and was a graduate of the Philip Schuyler High School class of 1937. In the summer of the following year she met the love of her life, Arthur Abraham Privler (Abe) and on January 27th 1939 they were married in a private ceremony. In 1943 while Abe was called off to War, Ida worked at the former Walters Blue Ribbon Potato Chip Factory. After his return in 1946, she subsequently worked for the US Dept of Agriculture and later for the US Immigration and Naturalization Dept for over 20 years retiring with honors in 1977. One of many important jobs she held, Mrs. Privler had the difficult but responsible position of acting as a direct interpreter for several witnesses at the Vilis Hazner Nazi War Criminal Trial held during January 1977. After 1977 Art and Ida retired to Silver Springs Shores, Florida, outside of Ocala where they enjoyed many years of happy retirement. While in Ocala, they were active members and volunteered many hours for different functions for their Temple, B'nai Darom in which Ida was a member of the sisterhood. Ida was also a longtime member of the United Order of True Sisters (UOTS) also Abigail local post # 3, of which her younger sister, Marian served as past national president.
In 1999 they sold their residence in Ocala and moved to Delray, Florida in efforts to be closer to family. Her beloved husband, Arthur (Abe) Privler passed away on November 14, 2001 after 62 years of marriage. Their many years together served as an extraordinary and unmistakable testament to the family for 3 generations as to what an unshakeable relationship based on love, compassion, dedication, and devotion is all about. In 2006, Ida moved for the warmer months back to Albany living at the Ohav Shalom Apartments where she enjoyed being in close proximity to her children, grandchildren and family. While back in Albany, she enjoyed entertaining family and frequently going out to dinner and excursions with her sisters, son, and grandson on a regular basis. In the fall of 2011 she moved back to Florida where she resided full time until her passing,
Ida was predeceased by her parents, her husband Arthur, her brothers, Herman and Abe Saltzman, her sisters, Martha Stagnitta and Marian Cohen, sister-in law, Florence (Flo) Saltzman as well as brother-in-law Theodore ( Ted) Siegel. She is survived by her beloved sister Sarah Siegel, brothers-in- law Leonard Cohen and George ( Dorann) Stagnitta, sister- in law Marilyn ( Abe) Saltzman, her sons Irvin ( Susan) Privler of Blue Point, NY , Robert Privler ( Terri) of Albany, grandchildren , Kimberly ( Eric), R. P. Raabe of Cicero, NY, Rachel (Justin) Serrano and David Privler of NYC and Jason D. Privler of Albany, 2 great grandchildren, Austin E. Raabe and Rosetta Serrano. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews of which she shared an individual and special love for each and every one.
Funeral services will take place on Sunday morning, 11am at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany, with Rabbi Moshe E. Bomzer presiding. A brief graveside service and burial will then be observed at the Independent Benevolent Society Cemetery, Fuller Road, Guilderland. A period of mourning will be observed at 35 Raymo Street Albany, Monday, 1/28 through Thursday, 1/31 from 12 noon to 4pm.
