Obituary of Dorothy Z. Friedlander
Dorothy Zweig Friedlander, age 85 of Altamont, NY died Saturday morning, January 12, 2013. Born in Albany, Dorothy was a lifelong Capital District resident. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Sophie Monk Zweig. Dorothy was a graduate of Albany High School and Ohio State University School of Social Administration. She had been employed at Robert's Real Estate Company and later was employed as a social worker for Albany County in the Children's Bureau and later the Nursing Home Placement Unit. Dorothy was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth and their sisterhood and was a former member of School # 19 PTA. She had also been a member of B'nai B'rith Pioneer Women. Dorothy did volunteer work for Caregivers of Altamont and also enjoyed swimming at the Albany Jewish Community Center. She was a member of the Independent Benevolent Society in Albany
Dorothy was married to Leonard E. Friedlander until his passing in 1988.She is survived by 2 sons, Richard Friedlander and his wife Gail of Clifton Park,NY, Barry Friedlander of Altamont, NY and her daughter, Ruth Friedlander and her fiancé, Terry Holohon also of Altamont, NY. Sister-in -law of Betty Friedlander Rockford of Rochester, New York.. Dorothy also leaves her dear friends, Rose Weaver of Latham, NY and Delia Vincent of Altamont, NY as well as many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins of the Zweig and Rockford families. She also had a great love for the many patients and residents she met while at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home and the Massry Center.
Dorothy's family wishes to thank Dr. Eric Roccario and Dr. Richard Balsam for the kindnesses show to our Mother during her illness. We would also like to thank the many aides and staff at both at the Massry Residence and the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their excellent care and professionalism.
Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery on Fuller Road in Guilderland, NY Those wishing to remember Dorothy in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203, the Massry Residence, 182 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY 12203, Congregation Beth Emeth or a charity of your choice.
