Obituary of Arlene Levin
Arlene Frances Tucker Levin, age 86 of Southampton, NY died on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Hospice Inn at St Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Albany, Arlene graduated as valedictorian from Albany High School in 1943. She later graduated from Cornell University in 1947. Arlene received her Master's degree from the University of Missouri and received her PhD from the University of Chicago. She was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Groningen in Holland.. For many years, Arlene was a professor of clinical psychology at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey.. She did research at the Marine Biology Institute in Woods Hole for Psychology of fish and mammals. Arlene had been employed at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. She had been a practicing clinician at Beth Israel Hospital in NY,. researching early intervention of young children. She had been the owner and manager of a school in Brooklyn known as Significant Steps which was a development center for children with developmental challenges. After retirement Arlene worked in Jerusalem at the Trauma Psychology Center.
Arlene was the daughter of the late Jacob Harris Tucker and Bertha Wallock Tucker. She was the beloved wife of the late David Levin. She is survived by her children, Hanina
(Mark) Levin, Rami (Arthur) Levin and Shira (James) Levin. She was the sister of June
(Jack) Barach. Aunt of Dr. Bruce (Irene) Barach, Lori (Richard) Strunk, Marc Barach, Scott (Regina) Barach, Alan (Barbara) Tucker, David (Melissa) Tucker and Alicia Tucker. Great aunt of Chris, Bryan, Zachary, Eliza, Jordan, Kyle, Derek and Justin Barach and Avery, Ethan and Gabrielle Tucker..She was the niece of Hazel Wallock.
Arlene is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She also leaves brothers and sister-in- laws; Ezra and Batya Levin, Jonathan and Judy Levin, Yitzhak and Ora Zohar,Julie Tucker and Yehuda Soher, as well as a dear cousin, Enid Kronick Hammer. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Tucker and sister-in-law, Tovah Soher.
Services and interment will take place in Israel. A memorial service will be held in the Spring.Those wishing to remember Arlene in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society.
