Obituary of Harriet Shain
HARRIET SHAIN
Harriet Shain, 78, of Albany, NY, passed away September 5, 2012. Harriet was a miraculous survivor of bulbar polio, contracted at the age of 11. After a year of fighting the disease, she recovered and went on live a full life with a career, a business and a loving family.
Along with her late husband, Martin Shain, she opened and ran the King George Ice Cream store in the old Northway Mall. They were known at the time for their products that supported a number of the dietary programs, popular in the late 70's and early 80's. After leaving the retail world, she had a long career with the State of New York, as a supervisor in the Medicaid division.
Harriet is survived by two sons, Stanley Shain of Las Vegas, NV and Brent Shain, of Latham, NY, a brother, Eugene Gross, a sister, Florence Paley-Cohen, 3 grandsons, Douglas, Heath and Brandon, a granddaughter, Malory, and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Mackenzie and Samuel Martin. The last few months had been especially difficult for Harriet. We who love her hope that she is now resting peacefully.
Services at the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland, NY on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 1:00pm.
