Muriel Frank was my aunt, and the wife of my Uncle Charles ("Charlie") Frank. "Uncle Charlie"; was the youngest of eight children of Rae Schapiro Frank and Jacob Frank, My mother, Ida Frank Blecker, was the next older sibling of Uncle Charlie, whom my mother fondly referred to as her "kid brother."
In a family of eight children there are bound to be squabbles and disagreements. My mother kept me abreast of the latest family disagreements. The only family of her other seven brothers and sisters the names of whom I don't remember having ever heard mentioned in connection any of the family squabbles were Muriel and Charles Frank.
I always knew when the Jewish High Holy Days were approaching, because Aunt Muriel, in her distinctively neat handwriting,I always sent me a Jewish New Year Card.
Growing up on far-away Long Island, I visited Aunt Muriel and Uncle Charlie only once or twice a year,but every Aunt Muriel's warm, sweet smile always made all of us feel welcome.
The occasion of celebrating Aunt Muriel's 90th birthday gave all of the cousins, from the 4 corners of the country to meet together, after many, many years, for which I will always be thankful.
