I just learned of Marv's passing. I am deeply saddened and offer my most sincere condolences to the entire family. Back in 1976, after graduating high school, I enlisted in the Navy. Marv was my recruiter and through his actions, I was offered the opportunity to see the world and gained experiences and skills that I continue to carry with me to this day. He was a great man and I consider it an honor to have known him. Anchors Aweigh Master Chief!

Marvelous Marv, truly one of the greats. It was my pleasure to have known you over the years sharing all those afternoons chatting and laughing at Club East. Bless you.

This is truly a sad, sad day! I remember well the days of going into Sarah and Phil’s store on Second Ave. Marv was there all the time, always a wonderful person! I would see him periodically in East Greenbush later on in life and he always would say “Sissy, how are you doing?” His brother Ish always called me Thithy instead of Sissy!
Ah the memories of better times.
May you Rest In Peace Marv!
My most sincere condolences to the family!

Marv's smile and charm lit up the hallways of Columbia high. Our high school experience would not have been the same without him. And even years after my graduation I would see him all around town, and he never forgot me. He was a wonderful man, with a huge heart. He will be missed by his students. We all have many fond memories of Marv. I send prayers and comfort to his family.

This is the saddest day. I graduated from Columbia in 1986 and I met Marvin my Freshmen year. I was his first "favorite freshmen" to Favorite Senior. He sent me a flower every flower sale for 4 years. I have never forgot him nor will I ever forget him. I am very sorry for your loss.

"A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder". Marv provided direction to a lot of young men and women who may not otherwise have had a goal. I credit my decision to join the Navy (with his significant encouragement) with much of the good that's become of my life. I am forever in his debt for that. Your final watch is complete Chief, now rest in piece.

I am so sorry to hear about Marve's passing. He was good friends of my parents, Ann & George Shannon, for years and I grew up knowing him. Marve was a wonderful person, funny and loveable. Whenever he saw me he hugged me and called me Judy Shananigans. I will miss that.
Bless your family, I know he will be missed very much.

To Marvin's Family:
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of such a great man. I have known Marv since I was a little girl growing up on 2nd Avenue in Rensselaer going to his mom's corner store. He was such a pleasure to talk to all the time. Everyone just loved him. He was funny, kind and caring. In this hard time now, I hope you somehow find peace in knowing how much he was charished by so many people. I will never, ever forget him or his smile.

My deepest sympathy to the Tonkin Family! My Mom and Dad always spoke highly of Marvin and enjoyed his company and conversations. His friendly, outgoing personality made it a joy to greet him or chat even for a few minutes. He was a bit of sunshine for everyone he met!
