Obituary of Betty Gaies
Betty Goldberg Gaies, age 92 of Troy, NY died on Friday morning, July 27, 2012 at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center in Troy. Born in Ilium, NY on January 14, 1920, Betty was the daughter of the late Harry and Lena Herzog Goldberg. She was a graduate of the Mildred Elley Business School in Albany. Betty had been employed as a Senior Stenographer and an Administrative Assistant for the NYS Dept. of Education, positions in which she took great pride. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah, a member of Temple Beth El and their Sisterhood in Troy and CSEA.
Betty was an avid reader and walker and had a great love for animals. She supported many animal and other non-profit organizations. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking, and will be especially remembered for her excellent, famous apple pies and cakes. Betty also had a great love for her family and enjoyed being with them on holidays and special occasions.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joseph Gaies. Beloved Mother of Ellen Gaies Schrager and her husband Dan Schrager of Concord, Massachusetts and Carol Pidgeon and her husband Michael Pidgeon of Oneonta, New York. Grandmother of David Schrager, Chris and Jason Pidgeon. Betty also leaves her sister-in-laws, Leah Gaies, Marion Goldberg and Ethel Agins as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sara Paul Talanker and brother, Hymen Goldberg.
Services at Temple Beth El, 411 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth El Cemetery in Troy, NY.
