Obituary of Sidney W. Roth
Sidney W. Roth, age 84, died peacefully on July 22, 2012 at his home in Voorheesville, NY, with his wife and his children at his side. He will be deeply missed. Sid was born on August 13, 1927 in Nassau, NY, into a large and loving family. He happily spent his entire life in the Albany area, graduating from Siena College with a degree in Accounting. He owned and accounting and auditing firm for most of his life. Upon his retirement, he continued his work as a tax accountant until the time of his death.
Sid was always athletic, a member of the Columbia High School basketball team, and was an avid tennis player for many years until, upon his semi-retirement, he discovered the obsession of golf. He was a great lover of music, and played saxophone and clarinet with big bands during his college years. Throughout his life Sid loved gardening, and spent many hours each day tending to his plants, flowers and trees.
Sid, the son of Morris ( Moische) and Goldie, was predeceased by his siblings Isadore ( Izzy) Roth, Lewis Roth, Nathan Roth, David Roth, Rose Lee ( Butch) Rosenthal, Jenny Schips and Elaine Bachman.
Sid is survived by his wife Mary Grace Roth;his beloved children Anthony Roth, daughter-in- law Belinda Roth, and Julie Roth, son-in-law Harry Lipman; step-son Ciro Raspante, friend Erica Keshler and of course, his greatest love of all, grandchildren Cate and Ariane Roth and Nicholas and Olivia Lipman.
Sid leaves many nieces and nephews. He had especially close relationships with Michael Roth, Rosheila Davidson, Bruce Rosenthal, Hal Roth, Marc Schips, Glenn Schips, Gregg Bachman, Merle Bachman and their spouses. He was sadly predeceased by his niece Ellen Snyder, who was very special to him. His great-nieces and great-nephews, Shayna and Elayna Bachman, Brenda and Jeff Snyder, and Zach and Gus Roth, brought his the greatest joy imaginable. Sid also leaves his longtime friends, Sy Weinberg, Bill Aquario, Billy Panitch, and Max Fischer. Sid's newfound friend Will Ryan was a great source of inspiration and happiness to him, as well as providing never ending comfort and assistance to Sid and his family during Sid's final trying months.
We would like to thank Dr. Lawrence Garbo for the guidance and wonderful care that he provided to Sid over the past several years, and Sid's other doctors and caregivers, including the Community Hospice, who took the journey with us.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 9:30am. Burial will follow in the Hebrew Farmers Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. Donations to the Nassau Synagogue, which was very close to Sid's heart, would be appreciated.
