I first met Joe in 1966 when I started grad school at U. Albany. We quickly became friends due to his generous nature, depth of knowledge and sense of humor. What I remember most about Joe is his smile. It was infectous. I am sorry to say I wasn't able to visit him during his last years having moved out of Albany in 2007. In addition to his being an excellent teacher, he was a role model for his many students--someone who had an honest commitment to the history profession and the search for truth. He will be missed.

I have such fond memories of working with Joe at The Albany Academy. He was soft spoken but so capable of getting his point made. It was my pleasure working with Joe, talking with Joe, and learning from Joe. I also should mention the great memories teaching his children, Aaron and Evan as well as working with Aaron in LEAP when he was a counselor in my Rocketry program. I last saw Joe when I took my 6th grade class to Daughters of Sarah. The students worked with the patients on a variety of games. I remember Joe's smile and when we talked, his wit and wisdom that he possessed. . He was delighted to see the Academy boys and remarked on how well they behaved and were willing to talk with the seniors. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Meda family. G-d bless.
