Obituary of Sophie R. Hollander
Sophie J. Hollander, 97 of the Beverwyck Community in Slingerlands New York died on Friday, March 17, 2017 at her residence ,surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sophie resided in the Capital District for many years and spent winters in North Lauderdale, Florida She was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany, the Colonie Country Club and was a former member of Temple Israel in Albany and the Shaker Ridge Country Club in Colonie. Sophie was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. She was also a bridge player and achieved the role of Master. Sophie was a world traveler, having visited, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband Nathan Hollander in 1974. Loving Mother of Barry D. Hollander and his wife Margaret of Latham, NY. Sister of Louis Benson and the late Sidney Beinfest. Grandmother of David and Amy Hollander. Great grandmother of Zachary and Jarred Hollander.
Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany on Sunday, March 19, 2017 a 1:30pm. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY The period mourning will be observed at the residence of Barry and Margaret Hollander on Sunday following the service of interment and on Monday evening from 7-9pm. Those wishing to remember Sophie in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Congregation Beth Emeth.
