Obituary of Albert R. Singer
Albert R. Singer, 90 of Niskayuna, NY died peacefully on Friday morning, February 17, 2017 at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Singer was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech High School, Brooklyn College and received his master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University. He was a Army Air Force Veteran and served post WW 2
He spent many years in New York State Government where he retired as the administrative director of the NYS Dept of Law. Mr. Singer had also worked in the NYS Dept for Youth and the Attorney General’s Office. Albert was a member of Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady and a former member of Albany City Lodge # 540 Knights of Pythias. He was also a firefighter and served as Commissioner of the Niskayuna Fire Dept District 2. Mr. Singer served on the boards of the Center for Women in Government and the Chinese Overseas Music and Arts Company as well as the Board of SEFA, State Employee Federal Appeal.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Bach Singer, a son, David Singer and his wife Mary Ellen, 2 daughters, Karen Miller and her husband, Mark of Agoura, California and Ilene Knebel and her husband Kyle of Los Angeles, California. Brother of Barnett Singer of Boca Raton, Florida. Grandfather of Daniel and Catherine Singer, Max and Jason Miller, Tyler Carl, Evan Carl and Elise Knebel.
Services at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue Schenectady on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Gates of Heaven , the Schenectady Jewish Community Center, 2565 Balltown Road, Schenectady, NY 12309 or Niskayuna Fire Company, District 2. 2772 Troy Schenectady Road, Schenectady, NY 12309 The period of mourning will be observed at the Singer residence, 953 Douglas Court in Niskayuna on Sunday and Monday evenings.
