Obituary of Ruth Zippin

Ruth Zippin, 96, passed away on February 6, 2017. Born in Albany, Ruth was a graduate of the Albany High School and received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the NYS College for Teachers in Albany. She attended the Hebrew Educational Institute in Albany. Ruth studied violin at the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany and graduated from their music department. Ruth was the founder of the Hebrew School Program at Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady and taught Hebrew school and Bar at Bat Mitzvah lessons. Ruth was a proud member of the Schenectady Chapter of Hadassah, the Schenectady Chapter of the Council of Jewish Women and the woman’s auxiliary of the Schenectady County Medical Society. In 1944, Ruth married the late George J. Zippin, M.D. who practiced dermatology in Schenectady. Ruth is survived by a daughter and a son as well as 4 grandsons and 9 great grandchildren. Services at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue Schenectady on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery on Watt Street in Schenectady.
