Obituary of Joseph Harry Cohen

Joseph Harry Cohen Aged 94 St. Petersburg, Florida (Formerly of Albany, NY) Died February 5th, 2017 in St. Petersburg Florida Born August 12th, 1922 in Albany, NY. Joseph was the son of Molly and Samuel Cohen. Joseph attended Albany High School. As a kid, Joe helped his uncle Harry Geller deliver meat from the butcher store. After high school Joseph enlisted in the Army and served as a Radio Operator on both the B-29 and B-52 Bombers during World War Two. After returning to the U.S. from Tinian, Joseph attended Syracuse University where he graduated with a major in Business and Communications. In 1955 Joseph met and married Sally Feldbin of Coxsackie, NY. Joe and Sally eventually moved to Pennsylvania then New Jersey where Joe enjoyed a career in retailing holding positions as General Manager for chains such as Gertz, Lit Brothers and Gimble’s Department Stores. Joe and Sally relocated to St. Petersburg, FL in 1979 where Joe was employed as District Manager for Lane Bryant Stores. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Joe is survived by son Gil Cohen of Omaha, daughter Stephanie Sittman of St. Petersburg, grandchildren Donnie and Adam Sittman, sister in law Lois Feldbin of Coxsackie, nephews and nieces Mark and Linda Feldbin of Kingston, Alan and Allison Siegel of Virginia and Linda Siegall of Ashville, North Carolina. Joe was preceded in death by his wife Sally, parents Samuel and Mollie Cohen, and sister and brother in law Sylvia and Benny Siegel Graveside services will be held Thursday Feb 9th 1pm at the Independent Benevolent Society Cemetery Fuller Road in Albany. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Congregation B’Nai Israel in St. Petersburg, FL or a charity of your choice.
