Obituary of Anne T. Baum
Anne T. (Doling) Baum (known as Nan), age 94, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2017 at her home in Loudonville, NY. She was born on February 28, 1922 to parents Jacob and Freida Trachtenberg.
Anne lived in Wurtsboro, NY during her early years and later graduated from New Paltz State Teachers College. At a young age, she realized she had a strong passion for both children and education, and worked as a teacher at School 19 in Albany for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband Martin L. Baum and former husband Henry Doling. Anne was married to Martin – the love of her life and best friend – for nearly 40 years; she was married prior to that to Henry until his passing in 1966.
Anne’s life was full and her loved ones respected her dignity and fierce independence to the end. Her love for children was especially evident with her wonderful relationships with her grandchildren Jason and Adam, and later her great-grandchildren Kayla and Logan.
Anne and Marty spent a great deal of time with grandchildren Jason and Adam during their younger years, enjoying numerous vacations and joyous time together.
Later, Anne formed a very special bond with great-grandchildren Kayla and Logan. They meant the world to her and she would proudly say that she began each day with a warm “good morning” to their photos on the mantle in her family room.
Among Anne’s many skills were her extensive cooking and baking talents that she used to the benefit of her family and friends for many years. She also identified strongly with her Jewish heritage and was a profoundly religious woman.
Anne is survived by her loving family, including her son Stephen Edward Doling and daughter-in-law Debbie Doling of Halfmoon, NY; brother David Trachtenberg of Lake Worth, FL; grandchildren Jason Doling (John DeCelle) of Glen Cove, NY and Adam (Diane) Doling of Rexford, NY; great-grandchildren Kayla and Logan Doling; longtime and close family friend Richard LaMountain; and many other wonderful friends and relatives.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue in Albany on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at noon.
Interment will take place following the service at Temple Israel Cemetery (located on Western Avenue in Guilderland). Shiva will be observed at Anne’s home at 2 Hilton Court in Loudonville on Wednesday evening beginning at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting that anyone wishing to remember Anne in a special way make a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association. Her family would also like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Robert Busch for the many years of care and compassion that he showed Anne.
