Obituary of Louis Zinnershine
Louis (Lou) Zinnershine, age 86 of Albany died peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017 at his residence following a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Lou was a lifelong Albany resident and was the owner of the former Louis Aluminum. He will be remembered by many as “Louis the Aluminum Man”. Following his retirement, Lou enjoyed wintering in Florida. He was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth and the Colonie Country Club.
Lou’s greatest joys in life were his family, especially the love of his life, Merna, his children, his granddaughter Simone who he affectionately referred to as “Cinderella” and, of course, his cigars.
Lou is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Merna London Zinnershine. Devoted father of Donna (Andy) Goldslager of Slingerlands and Robert Zinnershine (Amy Sardella) of Andover, Massachusetts. Cherished papa of Simone Goldslager of NYC. Brother of Barry Zinnershine (Nancy). Uncle of Scott (David Vos) Reiter, Richard (Pam) Reiter, Mitchell (Marci) Reiter, Lori Billings, Harold, David, Michael and Stephen Zinnershine. Lou was predeceased by his brother, Bill and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Crowley Zinnershine, as well as his parents, Arthur and Rose Zinnershine.
Services at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow services in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Albany. Those wishing to remember Lou in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Dr. Susan Slovin Research Fund, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, New York 10065 or Congregation Beth Emeth. The period of mourning will be observed at the Zinnershine residence, 7 Roland Drive Albany on Wednesday and Thursday evenings commencing at 7pm.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Susan Slovin who passionately cared for Lou over the past 20 years.
