Obituary of Nettie Gerber
Nettie H. Gerber, formerly of Albany, NY, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her home in Maale Adumim, Israel. She was born in Burlington, VT, on June 18, 1917.
In 1945, she married Morris Gerber who was stationed near Burlington Vermont upon his return from Army service in World War II. They were married nearly 60 years.
She and her husband later moved to Albany, NY, where they raised a family, and were involved in the community. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper, in the NY State Department of Audit and Control and retired in her early 70s. Her husband, Morris, worked for over 30 years for the Albany Times Union, and he also compiled and published a series of five volumes of pictorial history of Old Albany, as well as a book on the history of the Albany Jewish community. They were long-time members of Temple Israel in Albany.
At the age of 82, she and her husband relocated to Israel to join the growing family presence there.
They are survived by daughters, Etti Silverstein of Maale Adumim, Israel and Ann Wieder of Commack, NY, and a son, Ari Gerber of Beit Shemesh, Israel; 7 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on December 8, 2016 in Israel. Burial took place at the Eretz Chaim Cemetery in Beit Shemesh, Israel.
