Obituary of Warren Cohen
Warren Cohen, 90, formerly of Menands, New York, late of Eastwyck Village in Rensselaer, New York, departed this life on Monday, October 24, 2016 at home. Warren was born in Buffalo, New York and was the son of the late Mortimer and Jeannette (Davis) Cohen. He attended the Citadel and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo. He was a decorated veteran having served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He spent his entire professional life working in the family industry, women’s clothing, and was an executive with David’s and then Petrie Corporation. After he retired, he spent many years doing volunteer work in the Albany community including at the local hospital, Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed golfing, smoking his pipe, traveling and beating his kids (and an occasional grandchild) at gin rummy. He loved the New York sports teams (baseball and football).
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Miller Cohen, his daughter Connie Cohen (partner, Maura McNeil) of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, his son Barry Cohen (wife Karen Martinez) of Pacific Palisades, California and his daughter Jane (Cohen) Freedman (husband Jeff) of Newton Centre, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his grandchildren Arielle and Max Cohen and Julia and Joshua Freedman and his sister Helen Sloan (husband George) of Williamsville, New York, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016. All are welcome to attend. Reception to follow immediately after the service.
