Obituary of Meriem Clifton

Meriem Clifton passed away peacefully on October 22, 2016 in Richmond, Virginia. She was 91. Meriem (Mimi) was born and raised in Albany, New York. She graduated from Albany High School and, after going back to school in her 40s, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Empire State College of the State University of New York at Albany. She worked for the New York State Department of Health as a Regional Medical Care Coordinator and retired in 1986. Mimi was a voracious reader and consummate bridge player. She is survived by her three children, Madeline (Ken) Brooks of Midlothian, Virginia, Matthew (Joan) Lewin of Glenview, Illinois and Arlene Nash of Savannah, Georgia, seven grandchildren, Rebecca (Jamie) Sentman, Mindy (David) Nash, Kim (Pete) Brooks, Sari (Joe) Ghitis, Daniel Lewin, Amy Lewin and Jennifer Lewin, and nine great-grandchildren. She loved them all and always enjoyed following them on Facebook. Always the prettiest girl at the ball, Mimi married the love of her life, Ben Clifton, and they lived together in Albany until his death in 1984. Later, she married her second love, Marvin Sherman, and lived with Marv in Albany and Florida until he passed away in 2002. Following that, she moved to Midlothian, Virginia, where she was close to her loving daughter Maddy who always watched over and cared for her. Mimi was pre-deceased by her sister, Corinne Ribner. Funeral services will be held at the Mendleson Chapel at Beth-Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville, NY at 2:00 P.M. on October 25, 2016. Following services, mourners may meet at the residence of Steve Ribner and Monica Tan at 223 Longhouse Lane, Slingerlands, New York .
