Obituary of Florence Spillenger

Florence Spillenger passed away at 94 years old October 12 at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home Florence was born in Brooklyn and graduated from City College of New York. After raising two children, she reentered the workforce for NYS in the late 60's, retiring in 1984 as a bureau chief for OGS Commissioner John Egan. As a member of Women in Government, she was instrumental in organizing the 1977 New York State Women’s Meeting which elected delegates to a National Women’s Meeting. This meeting in Texas ultimately endorsed the Equal Rights Amendment. On the eve of an election with a woman candidate for president, she would be very proud. Florence was predeceased by her husband Morton. She is survived by her daughter Karen Gaul - Kenneth her son Ralph Spillenger- Sharleen. Also survived by two grandchildren Lilyanne Phillips and Shane Spillenger and two great grandchildren Jack and Eleanor.She leaves a brother, Bernard Brodwin and was predeceased by her sister, Pearl Sarnoff The family would like to give our sincere thanks to the staff of Schuyler Ridge and Community Hospice for their very kind care of our mother. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00am with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie.
