Obituary of Anthony M. Blassberg
Anthony M. Blassberg (Tony), age 77 of Colonie, New York died on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Parsippany, New Jersey as a result of renal failure. Tony was born in Montague, Massachusetts and was raised in Turners Falls, MA. He was the son of the late Judge Samuel and Jean Blassberg.
Tony attended Worcester Academy Prep School and did his graduate and undergraduate studies at Boston University where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science and " Master's in Communications."
He started his career at the Connecticut Educational Association. He then went to Travelers Insurance Company as a Communications Director. In the mid 80s, he started his own production company, Promo Vision. In addition, he was in real estate sales. Tony was active in local and state politics and was later employed as a Research Coordinator for the NYS Senate until his retirement.
Tony was a former Vice President of Temple Beth Tefilah in East Hartford, Connecticut. He wrote various papers and editorials and was the author of “Naches and Tsuris”. Tony was proud of his life-long membership in several video clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Silberg Blassberg ; a son, Alan Blassberg and his fiancée, Stephanie Swartz of CA; a daughter, Lisa Brandes and her husband Brion of Rockaway, NJ; a brother, Steve Blassberg of Wethersfield, CT, as well as a grandson, Benjamin Brandes. A daughter, Karen “Sammy” Blassberg, predeceased Tony. He is also survived by his brother in law, Edward S. Lurie, and nephews Jason Lurie and his wife Mary Ellen; Adam Lurie and wife Michelle; nieces Erica and Laura Blassberg .
Tony loved nothing more than a house full of friends and family. He was a perfect host who was one of the most generous people anyone could meet. Tony took special pride in introducing others to all types of events and entertainment from Broadway to UConn basketball.
Services at the Beth Emeth Cemetery, Turner Lane Loudonville (Albany), NY on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 10:00am.
