Obituary of Bernard Fox
Bernard Lester Fox, age 93 of Schenectady, NY died Thursday morning, September 29 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Bernie resided there for most of his life and had been a Capital District resident since 1998. He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady. Bernie was a professional musician focusing on woodwind instruments such as flute, sax and clarinet. He played in many of the big bands and performed at the original opening of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, Florida. Sharing the same musical interests he met the love of his life Beatrice one magical night when they were playing at adjacent clubs in Brooklyn.
Bernard is survived by his beloved children Andrea Golub and her husband David of Niskayuna, New York and Floyd Fox and his wife Caryn of Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Cherished Zayde (Grandfather) of Shayna, Hailey and Max Golub and Matthew, Benjamin and Joshua Fox. Bernie also leaves his sister Irene Harris, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue, Schenectady on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 at 10:00am. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will follow services in the Beth Israel Cemetery on Abbottsford Road in Rotterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Bernard in a special way may make a memorial contribution to Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady, NY 12309 or Community Hospice of Schenectady at 1411 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12308.
