Margaret Beckmann

Obituary of Margaret Mary Beckmann

Margaret (Peggy) M. Beckmann, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Peggy was born on Long Island, the daughter of the late Margaret and Nichols Payne. She graduated from Catskill High School, and while working at the Idle Hour, her family’s restaurant and motel, she met Rob, her husband of 60 years. They married after one year of dating and moved to the Capital District where Peggy worked at the NY Telephone Company and for the NYS Assembly. Though Peggy’s greatest joy was caring for her family and her grandchildren. She never turned down any offer to participate in any aspects of her daughters’ lives and always opened our home to friends and family. She truly enjoyed every single outing, dinner, party, trip or whatever there was going on. Peggy was also a very talented oil painter, who created beautiful ocean and landscape paintings and crocheted whatever anyone requested. She looked forward to Dominos on Mondays at St. Michaels, line dancing with her fellow seniors and trips with her friends through the Senior Center. Peggy will be forever missed by her husband, Robert J. Beckmann, her daughters Gail (Paul) Roberts, Mary (Jay) Carroll, Cheryl (Dan Roy) Beckmann, her cherished grandchildren Chelsea and Carly Roberts and Patrick and Nika Leahey. Also survived by sister-in-laws Joby Payne, Ruth Bates, nieces and nephew, along with Peggy and Rob’s dear neighbors, of 56 years, Chuck and Joyce Weber and their children Chuckie Weber, Marianne Barrs and their families. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon, September 18th from 4-6pm at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Road, North Greenbush, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie. Peggy’s family would like to thank St. Peter’s Hospital, Floor 3M for their care, along with St. Peter’s Hospice staff. A special thank you to Jenn and Joanne for your care, compassion and support towards mom and for keeping all of us strong through mom’s brief illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lustgarten Foundation, Cure Pancreatic Cancer, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, New York 11714 or Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
