Obituary of Sylvia Olshein
Sylvia Caplan Olshein, age 97 of the Beverwyck Community in Slingerlands died on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by her loving family. Sylvia was born in Saratoga Springs, NY and had been an Albany resident most of her life. She was a well known realtor in Albany for 36 years and had been the owner of Sylvia Olshein Realty. She was a founding member of Temple Israel, a member of Hadassah and had been active with the former Mizrachi Women. She was a loyal volunteer of bingo at Temple Israel. She will be remembered by her family as the “Center of the Family”
Sylvia was the loving wife of Jules Olshein until his passing in 1975. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Barbara Wachs (Don) and loving son, Perry Olshein and his wife Kathleen of Tippecanoe, Indiana as well as her daughter-in- law Cari Wasserman and her husband, Jack of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Grandmother of Kenneth Olshein (Bernadette), Pamela Keveloh (Rick), Leah Lechtenberg (Dave), Lara Wachs and Joshua Wachs (Karen). Great grandmother of Lacie Defraites, Jessica Defraites and Noah Defraites. Sylvia also leaves her special nieces and nephews, Judith Harrison, William Caplan and Richard Seiden as well as several great nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband,Jules Sylvia was predeceased by her son Jay Olshein, son -in law, Elliot Wachs great nephew, Fred Seiden and brothers, Abe and Henry Caplan.
Services at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Avenue in Albany on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland. Those wishing to remember Sylvia in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Jules Olshein Camp Givah Scholarship Fund at Temple Israel. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Barbara Wachs, 214 Ormond Street in Albany on Monday following the service of interment and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30- 9pm. A shiva minyan will be held each evening at 7pm
