Obituary of Carolyn M. Horowitz

HOROWITZ
Carolyn M. Horowitz (Lynn), age 64, of Albany, NY died on Monday, July 4th, 2016, due to brain injuries sustained in a fall. Lynn was born on September 9, 1951 in Rochester, NY to parents Harold Quell and Vivian Wallis. She received a BA in Art History from Cornell University, where she met her husband, Barney Horowitz, followed by an MA in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Lynn and Barney moved to Albany in 1977, where Lynn was active in a variety of community organizations. She was instrumental in the building of the P.S. #16 playground, and many other PTA and Girl Scout events. She could often be found working in her garden or walking her dog, Willie. For the past twenty years, she taught English as a Second Language to refugees resettling in the Albany area. Through this work, she developed lasting friendships with individuals from all over the world and helped many people settle in to life in their new country.
Lynn is survived by her devoted husband of almost 43 years, Barney Horowitz, her daughters Sheyna Horowitz of Manhattan (and spouse Matthew Gamage), Abby Horowitz of Atlanta, GA (and spouse Eli Rosenberg), her grandchildren Meir, Samuel, and Gavi, and her sister Brin Quell (and life partner Ray Tillman) of Chatham, NY.
