Obituary of Herman S. Wald
Herman S. Wald of Clifton Park passed away on Thursday June 2, 2016 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old.
Herman was born in Troy, NY on October 25, 1931 to Albert (Al) and Ida Wald.
At age six Herm contracted polio, however he lived a normal life participating in sports as well as attending overnight camp and public schools in Troy. He graduated from Lansingburgh High school.
After graduation, he attended Albany Business College. He worked at Rensselaer County Health Dept. where he was employed for 57 years as a senior clerk.
Herman developed an interest in Bridge playing locally at the studio in Schenectady and the Albany JCC. During that time he began travelling to acquire Master points. Eventually he attained Life Master status in 1988.
He met the love of his life, wife Bayla, at work in 1988. They married May 28, 1989. Together they enjoyed life and each other. Extensive travel was part of the joy and experiences they shared. Herman enjoyed drinking a good beer and brought home beer bottles from each country as souvenirs.
Despite his physical struggles, Herman maintained a great sense of humor, easy going demeanor and lived his life without complaints as long as the Yankees won their games.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Roz Danto and brother-in-law Marshall Danto. He is survived by his wife Bayla Greene Wald; niece and nephew Judy and Marc Danto, great niece and nephew Rachel and Michael Danto, Neil and David Wilcove and grandchildren Ben and Claire Wilcove.
He will also be missed by his devoted cats Sylvester and Hannah.
Funeral will be held graveside at Beth Tephilah Cemetery on Spring Avenue in Troy, NY on Sunday June 5, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rabbi Scott Shpeen officiating.
After service, please join family at the Bentley, 8 Wall Street, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Shiva will be until 7:00 pm.
