Obituary of Sara Hilda Harris
Sara Hilda Richman Harris, 95, beloved wife of the late Raymond Harris, MD, passed away peacefully at her home in Albany on May 15. Born in Cleveland, she graduated from the Girls Latin School in Boston and the University of Chicago, and studied at the Art Students League in NY. She was active in the Albany Artists Group, served on the boards of the Albany Inter-racial Council and Bleeker Library, and founded the Red Cross Friendly Visitor Service. In the 1950s, she co-founded the Center for the Study of Aging and, for more than 50 years, served as Executive Director. She hosted the weekly radio program "Sunday for Seniors" for ten years. She is survived by sons Alan M. Harris of Los Angeles and Jonathan O. Harris, MD, of Ft. Lauderdale; daughters Anita M. Harris of Cambridge, MA, and Laura Harris-Hirsch of Lebanon, NH; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 12 noon. Interment will be held on Wednesday in the Temple David Meyer Cemetery in Claremont, New Hampshire. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Tuesday following the funeral service and commencing again on Thursday afternoon at the Harris residence.
