Obituary of Ethel Carlyn
CARLYN, Ethel L. (Goldberg) of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Marblehead, Massachusetts, passed away on February 19, 2016, at the age of 96. Ethel is survived by her husband of 75 years, Robert Carlyn, her daughter Dr. Cynthia Carlyn and her companion Dr. Herb Scherzer, her son Richard Carlyn and his wife Deborah Meshulam, her grandchildren, Douglas Carlyn and Alicia Meshulam, her sister-in-law Ethel Goldberg, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Harry and Jennie Goldberg, and her brother David Goldberg. Ethel was a graduate and supporter of Boston University. After a honeymoon trip to Cuba, Ethel and her husband, Bob, became devoted Latin dancers, sharing their passion for dancing by teaching friends and students the latest steps. For many years Ethel and Bob owned a successful real estate brokerage firm on the North Shore operating under the name: Carlyn Realty. A talented artist, Ethel annually showed her paintings at the Marblehead Festival of Arts where she often won juried awards. She was also a member of the former Temple Israel of Swampscott, B’nai Brith, and Hadassah.
Burial was at Sharon Memorial Park on February 21st. Donations in her name may be made to the Marblehead Arts Association.
