Obituary of Mildred Brooks
Mildred "Mickey" Stratton Brooks, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016.
Born on May 24, 1927 in Mooers, NY, Mickey was the daughter of the late Alvin and Grace Stratton. Mickey attended Houghton College to pursue her love of music. Gifted with a beautiful soprano voice, Mickey sang in the traveling Houghton College Choir. After graduation she taught music for two years at Red Jacket High School in Shortsville, NY where she met the future love of her life, Ed. The two moved to Delmar and created a life together. Mickey continued to sing in church choirs well into her 80's. She especially loved to sing in the choir and as a soloist at First Reformed Church of Bethlehem in Selkirk where she was an active member for many years.
Mickey was predeceased by her husband Edward Brooks. She is survived by her brother Charles Stratton (Louise) and was predeceased by her siblings Katherine (George), Gwendolyn (Bob), and Herbert (Lucille). She was the mother of the late Elizabeth "Betsy" Young (Kevin), and William Brooks (Caroline). She is also survived by granddaughters Kirsten Young, Caroline Brooks and Samantha Brooks and a great grandson, Nicholas.She will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 10:30-12:00on Saturday, February 20th, 2016 at First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, Selkirk. A funeral will follow at noon on Saturday the 20th at the church. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Selkirk, NY
