Obituary of Norman E. Cohen
Norman E. Cohen, age 76 of Schenectady, passed away on Jan 30, 2016 at Ellis Hospital, with his brother Jerome by his side.
Born on March 10, 1939 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Minnie and Samuel Cohen, Brother of Richard (Shirley) of East Stroudsburg, PA and Jerome of Schenectady. Norman graduated from Nott Terrace High School class of 1957 and was employed by the city of Schenectady in the Engineering Dept as a Senior Code Enforcement Officer. He retired after 32 years on the job.
Norman resided in Schenectady all of his life. He loved photography, planting tomatoes and traveling with his brother Jerome.
Norman is survived by his nephews Stephen (Kim) and Larry Cohen, and niece Alisa Sarris. He was predeceased by his niece Paula (Tom) Cohen Crane. He is also survived by his great niece and nephews Ashley and Scott Crane, Samuel and Matthew Cohen and Joshua Sarris.
Services will be held at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street in Schenectady on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 1:00pm, followed by interment in the Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam, NY. Shiva will take place at the residence of Stephen and Kim Cohen on Monday and Tuesday evenings commencing at 7pm.
Norman was a very charitable man. He enjoyed giving to those in need, including Toys for Tots, Regional Food Bank, and the City Mission to name a few.
Donations in Norman's memory may be made to Congregation Agudat Achim or any other charity of your choice. His family would like to thank his doctors and the staff at Ellis Hospital for the care he received from them. Norman was loved and will be missed by many.
