Barbara & family - Please accept our condolences on the passing of Dan. As you know he brought tremendous warmth, spirit, and humor to the Jewish community. He was well loved by virtually all who knew him - not an easy accomplishment!
Personally I'll always remember his infectious dedication to the Jewish people and Israel from Temple Israel Hebrew school classes 50 years ago Dan always had a sense of whether it "was good for the Jews" or it wasn't. He was a pillar and a great guy to have on the team.
Thanks for sharing Dan with us all! May his memory be a blessing.

It is with a heavy heart that I send condolences to the Chick family on the passing our beloved Cantor Chick. I was blessed to listen to his beautiful tenor for many years at Ohav Shalom, care for him for several years as a primary care physician, travel with him to Atlantic City ( he enjoyed playing blackjack), talk with him about our shared interest in the Jewish liturgy as performed by the great Chazzans of yesteryear and got to know his beautiful family all along the way. Cantor Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and a vast knowledge of all matters related to Judaism, more so than any other Cantor I'd ever known. He was a wonderful teacher, friend to all and a true mensch. He touched all of our lives with beauty, caring and grace and he will never be forgotten. He is now with G-d and may his soul rest in peace eternally.

I was saddened to hear from my good friend Rafi Rosen of the passing of Dan Chick who I will always have fond memories of growing up at Temple Israel in Albany. Mr. Chick was always filled with positive energy and was one of the nicest, sweetest people in the synagogue community. How I will always recall his love for Jewish music and his smile and great sense of humor. I know how excited he was to have been offered the position as Hazzan at Ohev Shalom where he impacted so many people with his kind, outgoing personality, his beautiful voice and love for davening. I have no doubt that the Kadosh Barchu has welcomed him warmly into the Heavenly chorus of singing angels. May G-d comfort his family and his extended family at both Ohev Shalom and all those in the Albany Jewish community who were caught lovingly into his net. May his memory be for a blessing.

To the Chick family,
How the years have flown. Remembering all the great times at the Hebrew Academy when we were teachers. How fortunate I was to have been in the Ohav Sholom choir so long ago and remembering our High Holidays. Cantor Chick's voice was so beautiful with his renditions and beautiful chanting of the services, This will always be in my memory. My deepest condolences to your family and my thoughts of Cantor Dan will always prevail in my heart and in my thoughts. My thoughts are with you at this sad time.

To the Chick family....I am very sorry for your loss and just wanted to let you all know that after many, many years (more than 50) I still remember "Mar Chick" as my favorite Hebrew teacher who really pushed me to be a good "yeshiva bucher"..There are still prayers that when I hear them in shul or when I join in to recite them, I see Mar Chick standing over me, snapping fingers, and making sure I'm carrying the proper melody..... and he was the best customer that Pine Brothers ever had.... sorry that I can't attend the funeral.... Best... Larry Sanders
