Obituary of Vladimir Gurevich

Vladimir Gurevich, 82, of Albany, NY passed away peacefully at his residence Sunday, January 10, 2016, surrounded by his family, after bravely battling cancer. Born in Gomel, Belarus, he was the son of Aphraim and Devorah Gurevich. He received a bachelors and masters degree from the Polytechnical Institute of Belarus in Gomel and worked as a mechanical engineer. In 1980, he moved with his family to Albany and worked in drafting and as a foreman in a mechanical shop. He had a lifelong love of learning and enjoyed home improvements, woodworking, politics, reading, and his beloved dog. He was a self- taught musician and played the French horn, accordion and cymbals, and was learning to play the guitar. He was a compassionate care giver to his mother, a loving father, and the best husband in the world. He always put his family first. He will be remembered for his love, intelligence, wit, and pursuit of justice. Vladimir was predeceased in death by his father, Aphraim, and mother, Devorah, several uncles, and niece Marina Danovich. Survivors include his devoted wife of 52 years, Nina of Albany; sons, Leonard of Marina del Rey, Ca. and Alexander ( Leigha) of Newington, Virginia; sister, Rachel of Ashkelon, Israel, and ten nieces and nephews. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY.
