Obituary of Tobie Kessler

Tobie Schwebel Kessler, age 97 of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, formerly of Troy, NY died peacefully on January 7, 2016 at the Abramson Center for Jewish Life where she resided for a few years surrounded by her loving family. Born in Troy, NY, Tobie was the daughter of the late Frank Schwebel and Sarah Oxenhandler Schwebel. She resided in Troy until 1952 at which time she and her late husband, Herman Kessler relocated to Philadelphia. She was a member of the Beth Tephilah Synagogue as well as Temple Beth El both in Troy, both of which her parents were founders. Tobie had been employed for many years as a travel agent in Philadelphia and traveled the World. . She had been President of Troy Hadassah and had served as Executive Vice President of the Philadelphia Hadassah. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Montgomery County Community College and had been President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Russell Sage Alumni Association and a Republican Committee Woman. She and her husband were early donors and supporters of the Israel Children’s Tennis Center. Tobie is survived by her loving daughter Lynne Kessler Lechter and her husband Abelardo of King of Prussia, Pa, her grandchildren, Maxine Lechter Comisky and her husband Matthew, Paige Fetzner and her husband Torri and Jonathan Adam Waasdorp and his wife Tracy and great grandchildren, Maxwell and Michael Comisky, Benjamin and Alexander Waasdorp,and Bode Fetzner . Sister of Leah Gaies (late Abe) of Slingerlands, NY.Mother-in-law of Donald Waasdorp. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Tobie was predeceased by her daughter. Beth Kessler Waasdorp, brothers,Walter Schwebel ( late Babe) Milton Schwebel (late Bunky), and Rosalind Kaufman (late Oscar) and her brother and sister in law, May and Louis Kessler. Services at Temple Beth El, 411 Hoosick Street Troy, NY on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Beth Tephilah Cemetery on Spring Avenue in Troy. The period of mourning will be observed on Monday through Thursday at the Lechter residence in King of Prussia, Pa commencing at 7:30pm each evening.
