Obituary of Marvin Loewy
Marvin Loewy passed away on December 5 after a long battle with frontotemporal dementia. He was born October 14, 1943 in Manhattan to Hugo and Fay Loewy. He grew up in Monticello, New York, where he held multiple summer jobs many of them at the Concord Hotel. He met his wife Barbara Shapot Loewy in high school in Monticello. They were married 49 years.
He received a degree in accounting from Rider College and spent most of his career working for the State Comptroller's Office where he retired as an assistant director. Marvin was president of the Voorheesville Fire Department and Tall Timber Country Club. He was a long time member of Congregation Ohav Shalom and Pinehaven Country Club.
Marvin loved to play golf. He had a wonderful sense of humor. His greatest joy was his wife, children and grandchildren.
Marvin is predeceased by his parents and his sister Charlotte Loewy Rubin. He is survived by his wife Barbara, two daughters and their spouses, Staci and Patrick Mickler of Austin, Texas and Tammy Loewy and Nicholas Gully of Keene, New York, grandchildren Zarela Gulli, Sierra Mickler and Lyell Mickler, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Susan and Joe Greenbaum, Marc and Carol Shapot and Robert Rubin and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 New Krumkill Road, Albany, New York on Sunday, December 13 at 2 P.M. A period of mourning will be observed on Monday and Tuesday, December 14 and 15, at 34 Shadow Wood Way, Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
The family would like to thank the owners and staff of Avalon Memory Care in Cedar Park, Texas, the staff at the day programs at the Eddy, Daughters of Sarah and Bright Horizons and all the others who helped care for Marvin during the last 8 years.
