Obituary of Arnold Ferrer
Arnold Ferrer, age 80, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Albany, New York, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2015. Born in Bronx, NY, Arnie and his family moved to Albany where he graduated from Phillip Schuyler High School and Siena College, with a B.S. in Accounting. He worked the majority of his career at First Albany Corporation, beginning as a Controller and retiring after over 40 years as a Senior Vice President Investment Advisor.
Arnie was passionately devoted to his community and received many awards and commendations for his efforts. A long-time member of Congregation Ohav Shalom in Albany, he served on the Board of Directors of the Ohav Shalom Apartments, of which he was a past president. Arnie also served on the BODs of the regional Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Albany Jewish Community Center and the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Additionally, he was a member of the Independent Benevolent Society, an officer of the Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias Federal Credit Union, and an Assistant Treasurer of the B’nai B’rith Gideon Lodge # 140. As a member of the Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias for fifty seven years, Arnie held many positions including Past Assistant Chief Deputy Grand Chancellor. In this capacity, he served on many local and state level committees.
Arnie is survived by his loving and devoted wife Renee (Friedman), to whom he was married for 57 years, his twin sister Barbara “Bunny” Levin of Saint Petersburg, FL, daughter Sharon (Bruce) Goldstein of Stamford, CT, and son Mark (Dawn) Ferrer of Kure Beach, NC. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Lauren and Michelle Goldstein, Leah and Lindsay Ferrer.
Services are at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Pythian Service prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Independent Benevolent Cemetery on Fuller Road in Albany, NY. Friends and family are invited to the Ferrer residence in Albany immediately following burial. The period of mourning will be observed at 32 Aspen Circle in Albany on Wednesday and Thursday evening from 6:30– 8:30 p.m. with a minyan service at 7:00 p.m. Afternoon Shiva will be observed Thursday and Friday afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Arnold in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Amyloid Research Fund and mailed to Boston University School of Medicine, Amyloid Research Fund, 72 East Concord Street, K-503, Boston, MA 02118, or American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
