Obituary of Rheba Rubins
Rheba Rubins died on October 31, 2015 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in Manhattan, NY in 1920. She attended the public schools in Brooklyn and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She had a strong interest in dance, and joined the Hanya Holm Modern Dance group, where she was a member from 1939 to 1946. She performed in many group concerts with the Hanya Holm group, and in solo concerts of her own. She was then employed as a dance instructor at the YWCA in Oklahoma City from 1945-48. In 1946, she married Philip Rubins. After marriage, she continued to teach dance classes as the YWCA, and in Mt. Pleasant and Longview, Texas from 1948-1954.
While living in the Tullahoma, Tennessee area, she continued her dance instruction and also became active as a Girl Scout leader for five years. She later worked as a therapeutic recreation director for special population groups in the Hartford, Connecticut area.
Rheba was active for many years ain the Congregation Agudat Achim Sisterhood in Niskayuna, as president, and on the Board. She was also active in both the Sabbath Hospitality Committee and the Synagogue Catering Committee
Rheba is survived by three children, Phyllis Rosenfield, Peter Rubins and Nancy Rubins Grandmother of Ben Rubins, Philip Sky Rubins, Jessica Rosenfield and Asa Rosenfield. She was predeceased by her sister, Bess Feigenbaum..
Services at the Agudat Achim Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 11:00am.
