Obituary of Lester Henry Stein

Guilderland, New York Lester Henry Stein, 91, son of Nathan and Rose Stein, died peacefully at home in hospice on September 12, 2015 after a long series of illnesses. He was born in New York and loved being known for his Brooklyn roots. Les served in the Philippines in World War II and when he returned from the service he began a 50-year career in the garment center. He had clients all over the country, and when he relocated to Albany had many wonderful years at Barbizon and Peter Harris. Les was very involved at Congregation Ohav Shalom, serving as gabbai, which he adored. He spearheaded several art projects for the synagogue, including needlepointed Torah covers and two enormous wall hangings. \ Les is survived by Barbara, his wife of 45 years, daughter Nicole, and Dash, the dog he didn’t want but fell in love with. He was predeceased by his son Gregg and siblings Abie, Helen, and Morris. Les was a great uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. His personality and care for others made him a wonderful friend. Services at Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 New Krumkill Road in Albany on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Ohav Shalom Cemetery on Church Road in Guilderland, NY. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Les in a special way may make a memorial donation to Community Hospice.
