Obituary of Esther Eisner
Esther Eisner, 80, of Niskayuna, beloved wife of David R Eisner, passed away peacefully on August 20 2015, with her loving husband and daughter by her side. Esther was born in Springfield, Ma. on October 3, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Louis and Ida Levine. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers Samuel Joseph "George" who was killed in action during WWll, Max and Theodore Hyman . They lived in Syracuse, NY for 9 years before moving to Niskayuna in 1964. She worked as a Classroom Teacher's Aid at Glencliff Elementary School for 21 years, and volunteered with Schenectady Schools after her retirement. She was instrumental in starting what is now As You Like It Catering at Agudat Achim Synagogue. She enjoyed over 40 years of cooking for various simchas at the Synagogue and singing in the Synagogue choir on the High Holy Days for many years. She had a beautifully trained voice and also sang with the Madrigal Singers in high school and was a soloist at Beth El Synagogue in Springfield, MA. She also enjoyed working at the JCC on bingo night.
Esther is survived by her husband of 60 years, David; her three children, Lawrence (Amy) of Coventry CT, George of Spring Valley, NY, and Jill (Ira Weiss) of Staatsburg, NY; and her grandson, Ross Eisner. She enjoyed singing, cooking, baking, gardening and the Yankees.
The funeral service will be held at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union St., Schenectady, on Sunday August 23 at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Agudat Achim Cemetery on Schermerhorn Street in Rotterdam immediately following the service. The family will be sitting Shiva on Sunday immediately following the service of interment and on Monday and Tuesday evenings at the family home at 2244 Webster Dr in Niskayuna In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Congregation Agudat Achim , Schenectady County Jewish Community Center or Community Hospice of Schenectady .
