Obituary of Marvin Fishman

FISHMAN PALM BAY, FLORIDA Marvin Fishman, age 88 of Palm Bay, Florida died on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Palm Bay in Palm Bay, Florida He was the son of the late Lena and Jacob Fishman of West Hartford, CT. Marv was born February 21, 1927 in Hartford, CT, raised there and graduated from Weaver High School. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served as an electronic materiel logistics instructor at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until the end of the war. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Trinity College in 1949 and 1951 and taught high school chemistry and biology until receiving a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Hartford in 1959. Marv spent the next 33 years working for nuclear, aerospace and gas turbine companies in the area of materials and process development and application. The roster of companies includes United Technologies, SOLAR, Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Power Lab, United Nuclear Corp., Turbodyne Brown Bovari and GE Gas Turbine. He retired as the division metallurgist for GE's International Service Shops which repair GE turbines throughout the world. He holds two U.S. Patents. Marv was predeceased by his beloved wife Marilyn Miller Fishman in 1985 and his sister Frances Sheriff of New London, CT in 2011. Survivors are a son Paul of Scotia, NY a daughter Renee (David Hughes) of Palm Bay, FL and a brother Robert of Scottsdale, AZ. He also leaves behind a companion, Janet Bisner Valentino. Services will be held at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street in Schenectady, NY on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 11:00am Interment will follow in the Agudat Achim Cemetery, Schermerhorn St. in Rotterdam, NY. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hebrew Home for the Aged on Bloomfield Ave., Hartford, CT.
