Obituary of Gwenyth Gurien

Gwen Gurien of the Towers of Colonie died on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at her residence Gwen was born in NYC in 1928and lived in various locations in NY, NJ, California, and for the last 30 years in the Albany, N.Y. area. She received a BA from Hofstra University, and Masters Degrees from Kean College and Montclair State College. She also did graduate studies at the College of St Rose. Gwen taught elementary school in California and Special Education classes in Belleville, NJ for many years. After relocating to the Albany area she was employed by the NYS Dept of Education as an associate in Special Education. She loved children and wherever possible would stop and talk to them. Retiring from the education field in 1993 she pursued her avocational interests in her own business making and selling bead jewelry, and developed a dedicated clientele. Gwen was an excellent and highly skilled knitter and organized and maintained a group of equally skilled knitters who met frequently. She was also very interested in prehistoric cave writings, and visited many caves in Europe including Lascaux. She and her husband enjoyed travel together and were constant companions in those excursions. Gwen is survived y her husband Harvey Gurien and her three children, Vida Lipowski, and her husband Lawrence Lipowski, David Nessim, and his wife Merle Nessim, and Marti Hayducka, and her husband Arthur Hayducka and three grandsons, Jacob Lipowski, Joshua Lipowski, and John Hayducka. A celebration of Gwen’s life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Towers of Colonie, 420 Sand Creek Road in the rental office. All are welcome to attend. .
