Lillian Hershkowitz

Obituary of Lillian Hershkowitz

Lillian (Weisman) Hershkowitz passed away on March 19, 2015, at the age of 95. Lillian lived a long life surrounded by friends and family. She was truly devoted to her husband, and worked with him building up his insurance business. She was truly a remarkable woman who overcame so much adversity in life and continued to go on, greeting everyone with a smile and a warm welcome -- and of course, plenty of food. She was always there for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always giving and expecting nothing in return. It was a valuable lesson that she passed along to future generations – her legacy. There was no one who met Lillian who didn't love her. She left her mark no matter where she went. Now she will be missed by so many. Lillian was born in Amsterdam, NY to parents David and Bertha Weisman, and was the youngest of five children. She is survived by daughter Berta (Greg) Myers of Hendersonville, TN. She was predeceased by husband Samuel in 1999. She was also predeceased by daughter Hannah Hershkowitz Toback in 1980 and son Ronald Hershkowitz in 2000. Lillian was the grandmother of Marci Toback Rosenblum, Phyllis (Tim) Toback Martin, David Toback, Hannah Alexander, Sarah (Anthony) Myers Baker, Becky (Brent) Myers Purkaple, Daniel Myers, Joanna Myers, and Mark Myers. She is also survived by four great grandchildren: Aliza Rosenblum, Talia Rosenblum, Binyamin Rosenblum and Ariel Meir Rosenblum. Services will be at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY on Monday, March 23, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with interment in Beth Israel Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations can be made to Kollel Zichron Menachem and sent to c/o Stern, 9 Eagle Street, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977 or the ALS Foundation.
