Obituary of Gertrude Iselin
ALBANY — Gertrude Iselin, 93, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center. Gertrude was born in Troy on October 22, 1921 to Anna and Percy Dinowitz. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 72 years, Ralph Iselin, and is survived by her daughter, Ronni (Alan) Sims of Albuquerque, N.M.; sons Barry (Nancy Palmer) Iselin of Phoenix, and Peter Iselin of Troy; grandchildren Heather (Mike Sanderson) Sims of Auburn, Mass., Wendy (Jim) Fitzsimmons of Ellicott City, Md., Eric (Lauren) Sims of Los Angeles, and Amy Iselin of Rome, N.Y.; great-grandchildren Rachel and Claire Fitzsimmons; brother Irving (Gloria) Dinowitz; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Gertrude was blessed with many dear friends throughout her life, most of whom had sadly predeceased her.
Gertrude was a 1939 graduate of Troy High School and attended nursing school before marrying Ralph on December 25, 1940. She was very active in Hadassah for decades, enjoyed travel with her family to Europe and Israel, and was an avid gardener and a superb cook.
Most of all, she absolutely adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When it came to her family, Gertrude’s love was without limit.
Gertrude and Ralph lived in Troy for more than 30 years, at which time they were members of Congregation Berith Sholom. Later they lived in Clifton Park and Colonie, and were members of Congregation Beth Emeth.
Gertrude’s family members extend their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff of Daughters of Sarah’s Blue Unit for caring for Gertrude during these difficult last few years.
Contributions in Gertrude’s memory may be made to Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, Congregation Beth Emeth and/or the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family.
