This note of condolence comes 3 years after Richard’s passing, as I just found out.
Richard and I were neighbors and best friends in our early youth. The friendship changed when he moved to another area in Rockville Centre but fond memories of him and his loving family never faded. Richard was a great guy and I know he is missed!!
All my best to his family.
Sadly,
Bob Diamond

Only last week did Richie come to mind when I was telling a group about this summer camp coach who was always telling us to dump our collective, spoiled "What about my needs?" mentality and focus on what we needed to do to win.
I'm so sorry that his life was cut so short.
I hope he enjoyed the time he had.
My memories of Richard Hanft will always be a blessing.
May God comfort his family and friends together with all the mourners of Zion and Yerushalaim.

My deepest condolences to Sara, Caren, Michael, Bea and the whole Hanft family. Richie and I hardly knew each other in high school--we moved in different circles then--but as my co-chair and I planned our HS reunion starting several years ago, Richie stepped up with encouragement and always-helpful advice whenever we needed it. I'm profoundly grateful that our reunion last May gave him the pleasure of connecting again with so many old friends and that, through many emails and phone calls, we belatedly became such good friends ourselves. The world would be a better place if more people were as loving, kind, good-natured and optimistic as Richie--he was one of the very best.

I join all in expressing deep sadness on Richard's passing. As Rabbi Shpeen noted, those of us who knew Richard will have him in our hearts and memories. As the Secretary to the University Council, UAlbany's governance body, for many years, I came to know him and we hit it off personally, It was Harry Lee who introduced me to him and, in fact, he replaced Harry on the Council upon appointment by the Governor. In fact, he had renewed appointments on the Council and took on some added roles as he became a senior member. I think our somewhat common backgrounds helped us to bond and feel comfortable kibitzing. He was impressive and offered good counsel to this body during some challenging times. It was my good fortune to know him.

To the entire Hanft family --
Please accept the most heartfelt condolences from both Wendy and me. To a 15-year old camper, Richie was larger than life, a leader of the highest order who was full of energy, goodwill and had the most endearing laugh I have ever experienced. Over the years, we kept in sporadic contact, but he always was the same guy........whether the contact was in person, on the phone or by the written word. His compassion, joy of life and sense of ethical propriety were of the highest caliber. A man of unquestioned probity, he had the gift to see and bring out the best in all of us as well as always seeking to do the right thing.
To say that he will be missed is an understatement of the highest order.

I can't begin to tell you what a great friend I have lost with Richie's passing. He had the heart of a warrior when it came to politics but always tempered with compassion for people who were in some way being wronged by the system.
Rich labored many countless hours on behalf of open government. He did so much for the greater good that its impossible to recount his many efforts working on the causes which so often crossed our paths.
In later years I was fortunate to hear him speak about his love for Michigan football. "Go Blue" was his battle cry and I will miss dearly his voice, his kindness and generous spirit.
God bless you all during this difficult time.

Our deepest regrets and prayers of consolation go to the Hanft family on the loss of their father and son. We first met Richie in 1975 and became reacquainted through Sara, Michael and Karen at Tamarac. His efforts on behalf of children off and on the soccer field were well-known and appreciated. God bless you all. The Zagursky Family

Words can not express how saddened I and my husband, Gerry, are. We spoke to Richie often whenever we would meet up at various venues. He would absolutely light up when he talked about you all and his grandchildren. My heart and thoughts go out to you all. Please tell Bea we are thinking of her also.
I still remember all the times Sara and Aly spent giggling!
My heart is with all of you.

My condolences to Richard's family. Although I had not had contact with him in a few years, I remember Richard as always being courteous and respectful. Whenever we had a case together, he would try to find the common ground to bring the case to a resolution. The legal profession lost a good lawyer.
