Obituary of Paul Ziffer

Our beloved Dad, Poppi, Paul Ziffer, formerly of Schenectady, NY, passed away at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, Albany, NY, on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Paul graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady. He served in the Air Service Command during World War II. Following his service, he attended Siena College. Paul and his brother, Philip Ziffer, operated Jos. M. Ziffer and Sons (Capital Paint and Hardware) in Schenectady for 44 years. Paul served as president of Schenectady B’nai B’rith, and on the board of directors of the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and Congregation Beth Israel. He was also a lifetime member of Congregation Beth Israel and a member of the Jewish War Veterans. Paul was also a recipient of the B’nai B’rith Youth Service Award. Paul was married for 64 years to Ann Amazon Ziffer until her passing in 2010. He is survived by his children, Ellen (Eric) Kerness, of Niskayuna, Carole (Michael) Bieber, of Slingerlands, and Jerry Ziffer, of Lake Worth, FL, his grandchildren, Sheri (Matt) Krugman, of Franklin, MA, Lisa Kerness, of Marina Del Ray, CA, Jordan and Alexa Bieber, both of New York City, Michael Ziffer, of New York City, Allison Ziffer, of Coral Springs, FL, and Zach and Kaili Ziffer of Lake Worth, FL, along with two great-grandchildren, Sam and Leah Krugman. Our family would like to thank the staff of the Green Unit of Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their constant kindness, care and support for Dad, Poppi. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, located at 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Abbotsford Road, Rotterdam, NY. The period of mourning will observed on Tuesday, January 13 and Wednesday, January 14, at 7:00 pm, at the home of Ellen and Eric Kerness, 1357 Stanley Lane, Niskayuna, NY and on Thursday, January 15 and Saturday, January 17, at 7:00 pm, at the home of Carole and Michael Bieber, 273 Longhouse Lane, Slingerlands, NY. Those wishing to remember Paul in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY, or Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady, NY.
