Obituary of A. Edward Gordon

Albany, New York A. Edward Gordon, 85, passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital, with his family by his side. Ed was born in 1929 in Watertown, NY to Julius and Charlotte Markson Gordon. He was a life-long resident of Watertown, until moving to Albany two years ago. He had a wondrous boyhood in Watertown, where his adventurous spirit was born, horseback riding and exploring in Thompson Park. Ed was a graduate of Watertown High School and St. Lawrence University. He was the owner of Gordon’s Furniture in downtown Watertown for 44 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement, he looked forward to escaping the cold of upstate New York to spend his winters in warm Siesta Key, where he met his wife Helene in 1996. He was an avid fisherman and photographer. He loved traveling, running, and spending time boating in the Thousand Islands. More than anything, he loved to make people laugh with his jokes and stories, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was active in the Watertown Rotary Club and a board member of Degal Israel Synagogue. Ed was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his first wife, Judy Cohen Gordon, in 1991 and his brother Richard Gordon in 2014. He is survived by his wife Helene Patlen Gordon and by his children, Larry Gordon (Kim) and Marcy Gordon Zoock (Ira). He is also survived by his grandchildren Melissa Zoock Mulholland (Ryan), Jason Zoock, and Jordan Etem.
