Obituary of Michael Sinai
MICHAEL SINAI, age 89 of Mason, Ohio died Friday, December 26, 2014. Mr. Sinai was born in Sopron, Hungary, the son of the late Karoy and Gizella Sinai and given the Hungarian name “Miklos”. He was the middle of three children, with an older brother who survived the Holocaust, and a younger sister who did not. As a teen, and an orphan, he was taken by the Kindertransport to England, where he lived in Manchester and London, before making his way to New York State. Mike was a long-time resident of Albany, arriving in the 1950’s and staying until he moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio area in 2010. He owned the Skyline Painting Contractors business and was a founding member of Congregation Shomray Torah (The Shteeble) in Albany. As a Holocaust Survivor, Mike gave his personal testimony as part of the Shoah Foundation project. Despite the horrible brutality Mike witnessed as a young boy, he devoted his life to bringing joy and charm to everyone he met.
Mike met Joan Corman Bochner in 1974, and they were happily married for 36 years until her passing in 2011.
He is survived by his stepsons Glenn Bochner (Nellie) and Rabbi Shalom Bochner (Shoshana) and grandchildren Alec, Zoe, Nitzan, and Yuval.
Graveside funeral services will be on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 1 pm at the Temple Israel Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, New York
