I would like to convey my condolences to Nathan's family. Nathan and I worked together on several occasions. Each time I did I came away from that experience with the feeling that here was an individual who cared deeply about his work. I always admired Nathan because of the breadth of his knowledge and because he seemed so invested in his work. I will miss him as a co worker. My deepest condolences go out to Nathan's family. I am truly sorry for your loss. Howie Mann

We share in your loss. Nate was a unique individual: a friend, mentor, and a voice of sanity in an insane world. I will miss the phone calls, the emails and the banter. May God grant you peace and comfort.

We were so sorry to hear of Nathan's passing. My wife Bonnie and I worked with Nathan at NYSDOT. Our younger son Dillon did some yard work with Nathan around your home many years ago. Nathan was very good to Dillon then too. We live on Orlando and would see Nathan around the neighborhood. He was a great co-worker.

I will miss Nathan's voice in meetings and on conference calls. He did not always say what people wanted to hear, but he was often right. I often found myself saying 'I agree with Nathan.' We will carry on his legacy in the data realm by thinking outside the box.

Dear Michelle, It is with great sadness to learn of Nathan's passing and today's burial. He will be greatly missed. Nathan was a boss, friend, colleague and mentor of mine. His professional reputation is of national renown and knowledge of him is a guaranteed 'ice breaker' when sitting beside of some stranger at a banquet table thousands of miles from Albany. I will privately write to you later, as Nathan very positively touched the lives of people that you may not be aware of and the length of what I want to write is probably to long for here. Nathan's absence among us will be most greatly missed. Lee Maynus

My deepest condolences. I was saddened to hear of Nate's passing. I worked at DOT for over 26 years and almost from day one, I knew Nate. Nate was always willing to provide assistance, from the most complex analysis to tutoring for Civil Service exams. Though he sometimes made work harder by his - unfortunately often too valid – comments and questions, he made the end result better. He could inspire with his passion and in doing so Nate encouraged us all to think a little clearer (always a good thing). Nate made our lives better by his presence. I appreciate having worked with him and I am glad I knew him. Nate will be missed.

Nathan was one of a kind. Some misunderstood his passion. He really cared what he did and he couldn't understand why others didn't share the same passion. We enjoyed our chats about work and life with Nate. He will truly be missed by us and all at DOT. Our condolences go out to his family and he is in our thoughts and prayers.

To Wife, Michelle and Son, Jeffrey, I want to convey my sadness at the loss of your loved on (and my friend), Nate. You are in my prayers. May I share a few recollections of my friend, Nate. I first met Nate in the summer of 1981. I was a recent graduate of Cornell University and had started working for the New York State Department of Transportation's Region One office on Holland Avenue. I met Nate on my second visit to the Department's Main Office. Immediately, he took a liking to me - and I to him. He overlooked the fact that I was green, lacking any meaningful experience, and treated me, instead, as a colleague. He made me feel welcome. In 1984, I took a position at the Main Office and had the opportunity to work with Nate several times over the course of my 13 years there. Nate always treated me cordially and with decency. We would chat informally and I always found him to be a font of knowledge on many subjects. I once asked him what his hobby was. In his inimitable way, chewing gum and talking at the same time, he replied: 'I don't have a hobby. I'm an itinerant tinkerer'; and, indeed, he was. When my wife, Gloria and I purchased our first home in Schenectady, I sought him out for some advice about our heating system. Ours was an older home heated by gas steam. Nate gave me some great tips on bleeding the radiators which I diligently followed for the four years that we owned the house. In 1997, I relocated to New York City to take a position at the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council. We talked by phone and the opportunity to meet once during my three years there. I benefited from his deep knowledge and analytical skills (which he readily shared with others). My life has been enriched many times over having met one Nathan Erlbaum. Michelle, Jeffrey, family and friends, though his passing may seem untimely, Nate has fulfilled his God-given purpose and has entered eternal rest. Sincerely, Wesley Stephen.

My sincerest condolences to Nathan's family. I worked with Nate at DOT as well. I knew Nate from the time he was first employed until 2006 when I retired from DOT. Nate was brilliant and his contributions at DOT cannot be matched or replaced. He was always approachable and always took time from his busy schedule to speak with and assist you when needed. Human being like Nate are rare and irreplaceable. May he rest in the comfort of GOD's arms.
