Obituary of Dolores Binder

Dolores Binder was born on April 21, 1930 and died on November 21, 2014 at the age of 84. Originally from Brooklyn and Long Island, she and her husband Herman lived in Columbia County since 1996 and moved to Albany in 2005. Dolores graduated from Brooklyn College in 1951 with a degree in English, and received her master's degree from Claremont Graduate University in 1954. She began her career as a schoolteacher, but later devoted herself to writing poetry and teaching writing to adults. Dolores published her first book of poetry "An Obelisk in the Garden" in 1973, and her poems have appeared in Oasis Journal anthologies for the past four years. She had many other passions including gardening, decorating, cooking, and music. She also had a great affinity for visual art and loved the beauty of nature. She had a tremendous zest for life and great curiosity about the world even in her later years when her health was declining. Dolores loved her family deeply and was hugely supportive and encouraging to her children, grandchildren, niece, nephew, great- nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Greene; step-daughters, Lisa Binder and Jane Rosovsky; daughter-in-law, Lisa Greene; son-in-law, Joseph Rutkowski; grandsons, Brandon and Michael Greene, Benjamin and Daniel Rutkowksi, Erez Rosovsky and granddaughter, Tali Bahat. Dolores was predeceased by her husband, Herman; her parents, May and Abraham and her sister Thebe. Her immense spirit will live on in all of those whose lives she touched. Services will be held at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, on November 28, 2014 at 11 a.m.
