Obituary of Bernard Steinberg
Steinberg, Bernard DELMAR Bernard Steinberg, 90, of Delmar and Slingerlands, died on November 14, 2014, at the Eddy Village Green at Beverwyck in the presence of Ruth, his loving wife of 68 years. A decorated veteran of World War II, Bernie earned a Ph.D. in two and a half years at the University of Illinois. He worked as a microbiologist throughout his career and was a key member of the team that found the first effective cure for tuberculosis. After retirement he found a new calling as music librarian at WAMC. Full of intelligence, wit, charm, and delight in life, a lover of classical music and a true friend, Bernie is survived by Ruth; their children, Michael Steinberg, Judy Steinberg (Woodruff), and Susan Steinberg (Scribner); their spouses, Loret Steinberg, Glenn Woodruff, and Christopher Scribner, and grandchildren, Kiri Woodruff, Raimi Woodruff, Daniel Scribner, Abby Scribner, Paul Steinberg, Micah Falkner, and Sarah Falkner. His last months were made especially sweet by the caring staff at Eddy Village Green.
A celebration of Bernie's life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 3 p.m., at Beverwyck, 40 Autumn Drive, Slingerlands. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his name be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL 36104, or Congregation Ohav Shalom, 113 New Krumkill Road, Albany, NY 12208.
